The list of composers in the second installment of Ercole Nisini's project Love Songs Vol. 2 featuring love songs of the Renaissance reads like a „Who's Who" of famous composers of the 16th and 17th centuries: Palestrina, Monteverdi, Scheidt, and Caccini. For this, the internationally active trombonist has invited several renowned performers: the multiple award-winning tenor Wolfram Lattke, Vincent Kibildis on the Renaissance harp, Thor-Harald Johnsen on theorbo and guitar, and Zita Mikijanska on the organ positive. The program includes golden oldies such as Claudio Monteverdi's Si dolce è'l tormento set to improvisations by Ercole Nisini, Giulio Caccini's Amarilli mia Bella, the passionate Courant Dolorosa by Samuel Scheidt as well as Francesco Rognoni's „written improvisation" on Palestrina's well-known motet Pulchra es. Today, these Renaissance madrigals and motets would be called „standards" upon which great musicians of their time improvised. Ercole Nisini seeks to revive this vibrant music-making practice on his new GENUIN CD with newly interpreted improvisations from ancient sources.
