GENUIN awards special prize at ARD Music Competition to Dmitry Smirnov

The winners of this year's ARD music competition have been announced. From September 2 to 12, 2021, the jury selected the best musicians in the subjects piano duo, voice, horn and violin. A total of four first prizes, five second prizes and six third prizes were awarded at this year's competition.

In addition, there were numerous special prizes and scholarships. These include the GENUIN Special Prize, awarded this year to Dmitry Smirnov – personally selected by GENUIN Tonmeisters/ audio engineers. Smirnov received second place in the violin category at the competition, as well as other special prizes. The GENUIN Special Prize will provide the young violinist with funding for the production of a CD to be released by GENUIN classics.

Dmitry Smirnov was born in 1994 in St. Petersbourg and studied at the Rimsky-Korsakov Saint-Petersburg State Conservatory (Elena Zaiceva), afterwards at the Lausanne Institute of Advanced Musical Studies (Pavel Vernikov) and at the Basel Music Academy (Rainer Schmidt).

During the last two years Dmitry Smirnov was invited as a soloist by, among others, the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra Saint-Petersbourg, the Moscow Philharmonic State and the Chamber Orchestra of Moscow, the Lucerne Festival Strings and the Sinfonieorchester Basel.
