That a young violinist dares to present a CD that exclusively features contemporary music is unusual enough. That, however, her program selection is so successful that this GENUIN CD goes beyond all aspects of tonal beauty and all violinistic bravura, exhibiting almost meditative qualities, is simply marvelous. Zhi-Jong Wang spans a bridge between the East and West, between Sofia Gubaidulina and Bright Sheng, between Arvo Pärt and Lera Auerbach. However, she does not fall into the trap of globalization – leveling everything, but instead follows a wholly individual, striking path. Highest marks for repertoire and interpretation!
