Ukrainian-born cellist Georgiy Lomakov has won an impressive number of awards and prizes at music competitions. He was only six when he began taking lessons from Valentina Rymachevskaya-Balon in his hometown of Odessa, and only two years later won First Prize at an international competition in Uzbekistan. He has won other important international competitions including the International Cello Competition Antonio Janigro in Zagreb, Croatia and the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Pörtschach, Austria.
As a 13-year-old, he moved to Germany to study with Reiner Faupel, his most influential teacher and mentor. Later Georgiy Lomakov completed his studies with Siegmund von Hausegger at the Nuremberg School of Music, Laurence Lesser at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, and Wen-Sinn Yang at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich.
While still at university he gave his American debut as a soloist and has given numerous recitals throughout Europe, many of which have been broadcasted on radio and television. His discography has earned widespread critical acclaim. He performed as a soloist at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre in 2019.
