Alexej Gerassimez, percussion

Born in Essen in 1987, Alexej Aljoscha Gerassimez, received his first piano lessons at the age of five and began playing percussion instruments two years later. In 2000 he continued his education as a student with Christian Roderburg at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne and quickly began a busy concert career. At the moment he studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich with Prof. Peter Sadlo. Following numerous early successes in competitions (among others, four 1st. prizes with the highest score at Germany’s Jugend musiziert music competition), in 2010 he won the nationwide German music competition Deutscher Musikrat Wettbewerb and firts prize, the audience prize, as well as the press prize at one of the most famous competitions for solo percussion, the "TROMP Percussion Competition" in the Netherlands. Today he ranks as one of his generation's leading percussion instrument soloists. He has been awarded the special prize at the Deutscher Stiftung Musikleben on a number of occasions as well as other prizes. As a soloist and chamber musician Alexej regularly makes guest appearances at festivals such as the Schleswig Holstein Festival or the Festspielen Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In a soloist capacity he has performed with orchestras including the Berlin Rundfunk Sinfonie Orchester, the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, or the Bochum Symphoniker and his active concert schedule has taken him all over Europe, the US, and as far as Japan, where he gave solo concerts in Tokyo and Yokohama. The versatile young artist also actively pursues composition. His first works with the Danish publisher Edition Svitzer have already been featured in concerts internationally, including performances in Europe, the US, Canada, and Japan.
