Marcelo Amaral, Piano

The concert pianist Marcelo Amaral initially studied in his native country of Brazil. He pursued further studies in the US at Indiana University in South Bend as well as at the renowned Cleveland Institute of Music. He has appeared in concert at the Music Academy of the West, Cleveland Art Song Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Europäisches Musikfestival Stuttgart, Académie Musicale de Villecroze, Ravinia Festival, Montpellier Festival, Sommerakademie des Salzburger Mozarteums and Tuscan Sun Festival.

In 2003 Amaral left the US to study at the Munich’s Hochschule für Musik und Theater in the Lied interpretation class of Prof. Helmut Deutsch. In 2005 he was the music director and pianist alongside Olaf Bär in Hans Neuenfels’ highly praised premiere performance “Schumann, Schubert und der Schnee” as part of the Ruhrtriennale and at the Komische Oper Berlin.
Marcelo Amaral is the winner of the William Kurzban Award for Excellence. He has also won awards as an accompanist at the 2007 La Voce BR Musikzauber Liedwettbewerb as well as the Pianist’s Prize at the 2008 International Robert-Schumann-Liedwettbewerb in Zwickau.
Marcelo Amaral has been a member of the faculty at the Nuremberg Musikhochschule since 2008. He performs in concert as a song accompanist in Europe, North and South America and most recently gave a series of performance in the United States with the 2008-9 Young Concert Artists winner Carolina Ullrich. On that occasion Marcelo Amaral was praised in a New York Times recital review as “a superlative collaborator ... whose colorful, detailed and sensitive playing proved an apt match for her expressive singing.” Radio and television recordings for broadcasters such as Bayerischer Rundfunk, Deutschlandradio Kultur, WDR/Arte and Radio France round of his musical activities.
