Christine Schornsheim, Pianoforte

Christine Schornsheim has pursued an active career as a harpsichordist since 1985 and attended master classes with Gustav Leonhardt, Ton Koopman and Johann Sonnleitner.
She has collaborated with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Leopold Hager, Peter Schreier, Gilbert Varga, Hermann Max, Jörg Peter Weigle, Nicholas McGeagan and Andreas Spering and has also appeared in concert with Sir Georg Solti, Seiji Ozawa, Georg Christoph Biller and Hellmuth Rilling. In 1994 she made her successful debut accompanying Peter Schreier on a fortepiano.
In addition, Andreas Staier and Hille Perl are among Christine Schornsheim’s most important musical partners. She has been a member of the Münchner Cammer-Music since 2003 and has also worked very closely with Ensemble Zefiro and its director Alfredo Bernardini.
Christine Schornsheim is featured on numerous prize-winning recordings. Her set of complete recording of works for piano by Joseph Haydn on five historical keyboard instruments won the German Record Critics’ Prize, the Diapason d’Or as well as the ECHO Prize for Classical Music. And the exceptional recording together with Andreas Staier of works by W. A. Mozart on the 1777 Stein double (‘vis-à vis’) harpsichord won the prestigious 2007 Diapason d’Or de l’Année.
After working successfully for many years as a professor for harpsichord and basso continuo and as chairperson of the Early Music department at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig, in the fall of 2002 Christine Schornsheim accepted an appointment as harpsichord professor at the Munich Hochschule für Musik und Theater. The many master classes she gives rounds out her work as a teacher. Christine Schornsheim regularly serves as a jury member at international harpsichord competitions.
