Walter Zoller was born in Basel in 1972. He studied piano with Jean-Jacques Dünki and Adrian Oetiker at the Hochschule für Musik Basel, earning his concert diploma with distinction, and completed his studies in the masterclass of Bruno Canino at the Hochschule der Künste Bern.

While still a student, he received numerous prizes and scholarships from various Swiss cultural foundations. With the Mondrian Ensemble Basel he won Third Prize at the Migros Chamber Music Competition in Switzerland, earned Second Place at the Concours International de Musique de Chambre Illzach, and received the 10th Swiss Ambassador’s Award.

Zoller is a sought-after soloist, chamber musician, and song accompanist: in 1998 he made his debut with the Basel Symphony Orchestra at the Stadtcasino Basel, in 2003 with the Mondrian Ensemble at the Tonhalle Zürich, and in 2005 he gave his debut at the Lucerne Festival. He has been invited to numerous other festivals, including those in Weimar, Davos, Zurich, Bantry (Ireland), Kraków, East Sussex (England), and a concert at Wigmore Hall in London.

A CD album featuring works by Beethoven and Schubert, a CD production for Musikszene Schweiz – Grammont Portrait, and numerous radio recordings round out his work. Zoller has resided in Leipzig since 2004, is engaged as a pianist and repetiteur at the Gewandhaus, performs in a number of chamber ensembles with members of the Gewandhaus Orchestra, and regularly appears as a soloist and accompanist in concerts at the Gewandhaus.

He frequently also works as an arranger and composer: for example, the Gewandhaus Children’s Choir performed his full-length work, the children’s opera Aufstand!, in April 2019.
