Ramón Ortega Quero and Artemis Quartet awarded ECHO Klassik 2011

The stars of the classic branch gathered together at the Berlin Konzerthaus on Sunday evening for the presentation of the ECHO Klassik 2011. The German Phonographic Academy honours classical artists in 21 categories with this award, including the oboist Ramón Ortega Quero as Upcoming Artist of the Year (Oboe) and the Artemis Quartet for their recording of Beethoven's String Quartets, Op. 130 and 133 (Chamber Music Recording of the Year). The recordings of Beethoven String Quartets were produced by GENUIN sound engineer Michael Silberhorn; the current CD of the oboist Ramón Ortega Quero has been issued by GENUIN.

The Echo Klassik has been presented since 1994 and is considered the highest honour for a classical musician in Germany. Thomas Gottschalk moderated the gala at the Berlin Konzerthaus, supported by laudators such as Katharina Witt and Daniel Barenboim. Thomas Hampson, Simone Kermes and Rolando Villazón were among those who gave live sample demonstrations of their talents.
