Thomas Unternährer grew up in Marbach in the Canton of Lucerne (Switzerland). He studied oboe under Louise Pellerin in Zurich, as well as English horn under Martin Frutiger, and completed his studies with a degree in oboe and English horn performance as well as music education. He also pursued further studies in voice, piano and choral conducting. Since 2005 he has regularly performed with the Sinfonieorchester Camerata Schweiz. Thomas Unternährer has also performed with the Basel Sinfonietta and the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra. He is also a member of the Trio Cocteau. He has performed in chamber music recitals at international festivals such as the Pentecost Concerts in Ittingen, Switzerland or the International Oleg Kagan Music Festival. For several years, he has appeared in concert with his wife, Annette Unternährer, in recitals of music ranging from early Baroque to early folk music all the way to jazz and improvisations on various oboe instruments and also as a singer. He currently studies Baroque oboe at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis under Carole Wiesmann. Thomas Unternährer teaches oboe at the Escholzmatt-Marbach Music School and the Oberemmental Music School.
