Jürg Henneberger studied at Basel’s Hochschule für Musik with Jürg Wyttenbach (piano) and in Hamburg with Klauspeter Seibel and Christoph von Dohnànyi (conducting). He has gained a name for himself in New Music and often appears with leading ensembles performing that repertoire. He founded Ensemble Phoenix Basel and has been its director since 1998. He has worked as artistic director in large-scale opera productions including at Theater Basel and the Hanover Staatsoper with directors including Christoph Marthaler and Herbert Wernicke. Jürg Henneberger is a professor at the Basel Hochschule für Musik where he shares responsibility for the Specialized New Music Performance major in its Master’s program. He appears in recital primarily as an accompanist or chamber musician.
