Maya Koch

Maya Koch, born in 1978 of German-Japanese parentage, studied with Josef Rissin in Karlsruhe, Jean-Jacques Kantorow at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris and with David Takeno at the Guildhall School of Music in London. Her numerous prizes and awards include the Bach Prize in Baden-Baden and first prize at the International Lions Competition for Violinists in Porto, Portugal.

Maya has performed at venues throughout Europe, Japan and China including London's Wigmore Hall, Cheltenham Festival, Prussia Cove, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Teatro della Pergola Florence, Tsuda Hall Tokyo, Forbidden City Hall Beijing and Grand Theatre Hangzhou. She has appeared with such artists as Martha Argerich, Ivry Gitlis, as member of the London Conchord Ensemble, and as soloist with many orchestras including the Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz and the arcata stuttgart Chamber Orchestra. In January 2006 she completed a 12 concert tour of China, playing Beethoven's violin concerto in cities including Beijing and Shanghai. The tour, which received widespread critical acclaim, began with a sold out concert in Stuttgart's Liederhalle.

Future performances include a concerto tour to Italy (Rovigo, Padova and Vicenza’s Teatro Olimpico), chamber music performances at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, LSO St Lukes in London, and a 10 concert tour to Ireland.

Maya’s latest recording projects are two CDs of Bach concertos, a CD of chamber music by Beethoven, a recital disc with works by Poulenc, Stravinsky and Milhaud, all for Quartz Records, and another recital disc containing works by Schumann, Prokofiev, Poulenc and Lutoslawski for Ars Musici/Primavera.
She has been broadcast by BBC Radio 3, NHK Tokyo and several national radio stations in Germany.

Maya is supported by the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes, the German Academic Exchange Service, the Helga Drews Foundation, and the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben, which loans her a Tononi violin, Venice 1727.
