Caspar Frantz was born in 1980, in Kiel, Germany. He received his first lessons on the piano at the age of seven. After studies in Hamburg and Detmold, he is now a student of Professor Matthias Kirschnereit at the Rostock Musikhochschule. Close collaboration with Professor Renate Kretschmar-Fischer and Elisabeth Leonskaja, as well as master classes with Professor Karl-Heinz Kämmerling and Maria Joăo Pires are further highlights in his artistic development.
Julian Arp and Caspar Frantz met at an early age and the mutual joy they took in performing music together soon led to the formation of their chamber music duo. They have gained important artistic insight and inspiration through their studies as well as from working with György Kurtág and Ferenc Rados. In 2006 the two young artists won First Prize at three prestigious competitions—the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Competition together with the Chamber Music Prize of the Freunde junger Musiker, the German Music Competition as well as a Special Prize of the German Musikleben Foundation and the International Chamber Music Competition Premio Vittorio Gui in Florence, continuing their success in recent years. Julian Arp
and Caspar Frantz are in demand as guest artists at chamber music concerts throughout the world.
